I can’t believe my luck ! Woke up to sunshine and a little warmer weather.
A quick breakfast and we’re out on the trail. I’m back riding my favourite horse ‘Sweetie’ … we will need the most experienced horses for today’s trek.
We are heading up the mountain to an elevation of 700 ft … but we will cross 2 valleys before making the assent. It was quite steep and rocky for the horses and we stopped several times on the climb to give them a break. To be honest, they are in such good shape that they weren’t breathing that heavy at all.
We finally reached Chateau de la Faye, a castle ruin near the top of the mountain. This Chateau is owned by Sabine’s sister, but it will never be habitable as it cannot bring running water to the castle due to it’s historical status. It has amazing views and you can wander through the ruins including the ruins of the workers cottages on the grounds. It was an amazing experience and not one I’ll forget anytime soon.
We finished the evening at a restaurant in the next village over and I packed for the next days departure.
