Au revoir to Ciao !

My train didn't leave until 2:00pm so have some time to kill in Nice.  Left my luggage at the flat and headed out to get some breakfast next door for some amazing pancakes, yoghurt and coffee.
Took a walk down to the main road that runs parellel to the beach.  My destination was Maison Auer, this original candy shop was a favourite of Queen Victoria.  It is an amazing place, unchanged with exception of the lighting and plumbing.  It's a little expensive, so just bought a small chocolate bar with hazelnuts.
After Maison Auer, I walked over to the market and spent time looking at the many cheeses, meats, flowers, soaps, etc. on sales.  The last thing I wanted to get was a 'Socca'. Socca is a chickpea crepe that has been baked and then fried, served as is with a sprinkle of black pepper.
I saw this market stall called 'Theresa's on an eposide of Rick Stein so I thought I'd give it a try.  The Socca comes to the market in a special contraption, piping hot throughout the day by a man on a specialized bicycle.  It was very good.
The train trip to Genoa was uneventful and I arrived just after 5:00pm.  I caught the bus as instructed which dropped me of in Piazza di Ferrari which is the main square in Genoa.  Then the not so easy part started.
GPS's have a hard time providing correct instructions as the buildings are so tall and the streets are very narrow.  It took me 25 minutes to do a normal 5 minute walk to my AirBnb because I relied on Google maps before I realized I was actually on my own.  I finally found where I was supposed to be and was faced with a 3rd floor stair climb with a 23kg suitcase :(
Finally got settled in and my Host gave me the name of 2 Trattoria's that she recommended for dinner.  I chose one called 'Cavour 21' which specialized in authentic Ligurian cuisine.  My Host also gave me the directions through the maze of tiny alleyways which got me there pretty quick.  It's a very popular restaurant with the locals and is very good value.  As I was only 'one' person, they sat me at a table with another family (which is very normal in Italy) who spoke no English ... and I, no Italian (expect 'Ciao' and 'Prego') ... but somehow we managed to communicate.  The meal was really good and I was now in need for some downtime ... it had been a long day.  I made my way, in the dark, back through  the tiny alleys, passed the local prostitutes and creepy people in doorways.  I was glad to see the Flat's front door.
