Romeward bound !
17.05.2019
The BnB had called the 'Porter' to come and fetch my suitcase and take it to the parking lot for my departure. The 'Porter' is called Michael and he's a lovely 14h Mule ! He is very well looked after and is very fit. His handler (who's name I didn't ask) strapped my suitcase onto Michael's specially designed luggage rack and then asked Michael to 'go'. The Mule climbed the stairs like a mountain goat ... picking his way up the uneven stairs and when he got to the top of the first set he waited for his handler at the top. Michael then moved to the next set of stairs which weren't as steep but more of them. In total, 220 steps up to reach the parking lot ... I couldn't have hauled my suitcase up there without giving myself a heart attack.
By the time I made it up, my suitcase had been unloaded and placed into the waiting vehicle. It was Leo, the driver that had taken me from Sorrento to Positano 4 days earlier.
The drive from Positano to Naples took almost 2 hours and I was in the station with plenty of time to spare.
The train from Naples to Rome took around and hour and the walk from the train station to the hotel took about 15 minutes.
The room was on the top floor (yay elevator) and was very narrow about an armspan and a half. Oh well, just sleeping there.
I had made arrangements with a friend, Luca ... whom I had met in Granada, Spain a year ago, to go out for dinner.
He picked me up on his motorcycle and said he was taking me to a 'Roman' style restaurant in a trendy, busy area in Rome. On the way, he did a tourist drive by of the Vatican, which was really neat as there was nobody there !
We had a great meal at a Trattoria followed by some Grappa (I love grappa :D). The ride back to the hotel seemed much shorter than the ride earlier ... or maybe it was the Grappa.
Thanks Luca ! I had a blast !
Tomorrow I have an early start ... scoping out the Pope's place :D
