Escape to the Chateau

Woke up to copious amounts of rain this morning so looks a ‘no go’ for riding today. It’s quite cold out too … need the puffer jacket and gloves.
There was a lull in the rain so decided to go up the mountain to the lookout. The lookout is just over 1,000 ft high and it is really cold up there. Made it to the lookout on the walking trail and stayed about 10 minutes … then it started snowing *LOL* … enough of that.
Thursday afternoon was spent at Chateau des Grimardies. Sabine, the owner of the chateau, is a good friend of my hosts and she and her sister Isabel had come riding with us last Tuesday. As the chateau is not open to the public, she offered to give the ‘Canadian’ a private tour  The chateau was built in the late 1600’s and has been in her family for 10 generations. Her and her husband have spend the last 15 years restoring it with all of it’s old world features and a few ‘mod cons’, e.g., running water, bathrooms, etc.
We were greeted in the ‘Bureau d’office’ with actual champagne and snacks before the tour. She has kept records and created books of the restoration to pass down to her children. The chateau also has it’s own chapel where she was christened some 40 odd years ago. What a fabulous place !
Hopefully we will be able to get out riding tomorrow seeing as it’s my last full day here.
